Not Accepting Registration Code

Postby tomkat on Mon Jul 12, 2010 1:14 pm

Not to be rude, but it seems you tell people to email support and nobody is getting an answer.

I have the same problem with the registration code. I used to use fraps and came across Game Cam and Game Cam
is a little better on frame rates. I use it on RailWorks trainsimulator and yes it's from steam. I didn't have any problems
with Game Cam with RailWorks whatsoever. The problem I have is when I updated my video drivers, I uninstalled my
old video drivers and installed the new ones from nvidia. When I started Game Cam and RailWorks to record it, it stopped
recording and said it can only record 10 secs. on the trial version. I re-entered my registration code and said it was Invalid.
I went to the top of the website page and entered my email address to send the code, tried it and still didn't work. All this
happened because I uninstalled my video drivers to install an update and it ran fine before that. So, can you tell me what's the
problem?

I uninstalled Game Cam and deleted the folder that was leftover and went to the registry and got rid of everything related to
Game Cam and reinstalled Game Cam, entered the Registration Code, and nothing, same thing Invalid.

I would like to know why SUPPORT isn't answering my question, I all ready sent three so far.

Reading further in this forum, it seems this program has a lot of problems.
I was also looking at the FAQ about the IP Address. Correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't the IP address automatically change, in other words
the IP address is never the same. So yes, my IP address will not be the same if I have to reenter my registration code because the IP address
changes all the time. I really think you need to scrap this registration process and do what Fraps does. I already talked two other people into
buying this program and now I might have to tell not to because of these problems. It seems I wasted 29.95 for a program that doesn't work
and looking at the license agreement and all the things I can't do, but this company doesn't mind cheating the consumer and maybe that should be
in the license agreement.

I've installed many video card drivers in testing Game Cam and
I have never seen this issue before. What exact Nvidia driver
version number are you using now?

doesn't the IP address automatically change, in other words

For the most part, dynamic IP (always changing) are associated
with dial-up internet connections.

Reading further in this forum, it seems this program has a lot of problems.

It's normal to see people posting isses on a support forum. There are lots of users
of Game Cam who almost never post on the forums because they are having any issues.

I really think you need to scrap this registration process and do what Fraps does

While software piracy can't be 100% prevented, the developers feel that this is the best way to discourage it.
I have personally purchased Fraps for compariosn testing , but I found that it would be pretty easy to get for free
if I didn't want to pay for it.

I would like to know why SUPPORT isn't answering my question, I all ready sent three so far.

I'll send an email to the developers on your behalf.

but this company doesn't mind cheating the consumer

That is not something that the developers would even consider doing.

p.s.
All other posts from the "Gamecam crashes on startup" topic have been removed,
as they are not related to the original poster's question, which is still open.

I updated the drivers yesterday evening ver. 257.21 WHQL graphics card 8800gts. After the restart for the drivers to take affect I start GameCam and the
game with no problems after 10 or 20 secs. it told me it can't record longer in trail version or to that affect. When I went in to reenter my registration code
it says it's invalid. I went to the website and typed in my email address to have the code sent back and it was the same code, I put it in and the same thing "Invalid"

For the most part, dynamic IP (always changing) are associated

I don't think so, I have DSL and the IP always changes, it's never the same. Years ago it always stayed the same but not anymore.

I will agree to that, however hackers will always find a way to steal it. However this method that the developers use is not working.
I looked through this forum and a lot of people are having problems with this registration setup. There has got to be another method
besides this one, to me it's a disaster and I think it's do to the ip address changing. Let me give you an example: Let's say my IP is
"95.125.130.40" and I register GameCam your servers sees that IP. The next two days or so the IP could be "91.70.140.20" it changes
for security reasons and I go and reenter my code and your server only sees "95.125.130.40." However I don't know the cause why my
code got screwed up. All I know is when I uninstalled my video drivers and installed the updated ones and now it won't work. I never
uninstalled GameCam but I did when this mess happened.

I'll send an email to the developers on your behalf.

This shouldn't really be on my behalf, I emailed them four times now and they should be responding since it's called "Support."

That is not something that the developers would even consider doing.

It seems like though. The only way that it would work if I purchased it again with a different IP Address.

1) Game Cam is a small company and the forums are not monitored 24/7.
2) Personally speaking, the assistance that I offer here on the forums is VOLUNTARY I am under no formal contract to assist WHATSOEVER.
I do this on my own personal time. If my replies are not fast enough for you, you are welcome to continue all future
correspondence directly with the developers
: regusersupport@planetgamecam.com

I uninstalled the Nvidia beta drivers that I was using and installed the current Nvidia WHQL 257.21 drivers
and was unable to reproduce the registration issue.

I don't think so, I have DSL and the IP always changes

I'm using Shaw Cable for an ISP and my IP address has been the same for as long as I can remember.

However this method that the developers use is not working.
I looked through this forum and a lot of people are having problems with this registration setup

In the majority of cases, the developers make the necessary corrections without a problem.

This shouldn't really be on my behalf, I emailed them four times now and they should be responding since it's called "Support."

It is on your behalf. I sent the email to the developers' personal email address.

There has got to be another method
besides this one, to me it's a disaster and I think it's do to the ip address changing.

This is the method of registration that has been chosen by the developers and I don't see them changing it.
If your IP address is always changing, then you might be better off requesting a refund.

Course not, that's the way it always works. Not all computers are the same or the configurations
so there's no point in trying it. Be sides you said you have an IP that never changes and you won't
have a registration issue. But I will since mine does change, I will have an issue.

I'm using Shaw Cable for an ISP and my IP address has been the same for as long as I can remember.

I'm using Verizon ISP, and I called them and yes my IP always changes and nothing I can do about it.
It seems the developers based it on Shaw Cable (IP never changes) and never bothered to test it on ISP's
that have automatic assign IP's (always changes.)

In the majority of cases, the developers make the necessary corrections without a problem.

Then Why am I not getting a response from these people? I emailed the WebMaster and still nothing. Why do
these people have emails if there not going to respond? To me it's poor customer service.

This is the method of registration that has been chosen by the developers and I don't see them changing it.

I really don't want to do that. I like this program never had a problem with it, it has better FPS when recording, better
than fraps, and the game I used it on doesn't lag where fraps does and not to mention a zoom with good FOV. I finally found
a program that does what I want and now find out it doesn't like changing IP addresses.
If these guys don't respond by the end of the week then I'm going to open a dispute in PayPal, I can't have these people steal
my money for a product that's not working.

So, can you tell me why my registration code won't work and says "Invalid" every time I enter it?

So, can you tell me why my registration code won't work and says "Invalid" every time I enter it?

It's because the IP address on the computer is now different than the one that
was used the very first time Game Cam was successfully validated (registered).
When the user first tries to validate (register) Game Cam, the computer connects
to the Game Cam server and the computer's IP address is then stored on the server.
Any re-registration tries after that will only be successful if the Game Cam server
sees the same IP address that was used the first time.

With regards to the initial cause of the issue, I wonder if there is more going on with the computer.
Video card drivers are in no way related to the Game Cam registration process, whatsoever.
Changes to the computer that would affect the registry, may have affected Game Cam, as that is where the Game Cam registration information is stored when Game Cam is validated. Even when Game Cam is installed, uninstalled via the "add or remove programs" and then reinstalled, the registration information should remain in the registry. This is so that ther user doesn't have to redo the validation process when updating Game Cam from an older version to a newer version.

p.s.
This is where the Game Cam registration information is stored.

What I wanted to do was use game cam and record in 3D since it was easy on frame rates. When I went to activate the nvidia stereo 3D it wouldn't work.
I went to the nvidia website to download the new drivers and the 3D drivers (version numbers have to match) then I uninstalled the old drivers and installed
the new drivers including the 3D drivers. When I opened Game Cam to record in 3D, 10 or 20 secs later it stopped and said it can't record longer in the trail
version or to that affect. Game Cam worked fine right before I downloaded the drivers because I recorded a three minute video and put it on YouTube. The video drivers
require a reboot for the drivers to take affect, maybe it was because of the reboot. Now when I try to put in my Registration Code it keeps saying it's invalid. I tried everything
you told other people to do and still nothing. As for the reboot, I haven't rebooted my computer since I bought Game Cam, I rarely reboot unless I need too.
Anyways I looked through the registry;

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-4131753039-2268309316-4238108205-1000\Software\GameCam]

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-4131753039-2268309316-4238108205-1000\Software\GameCam\Settings\v2.3]
"INSTALL_PATH"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Game Cam V2\\"
"BkgColor"=dword:ff333333
"PnlColor"=dword:ff333333

"OPTIONS_DATA"=hex: There are tons of hex numbers and don't think it will fit in here.

"VIDEO_PATH"="C:\\Users\\Tom Boswell\\Videos\\Game Cam Videos\\"
"IMAGE_PATH"="C:\\Users\\Tom Boswell\\Pictures\\Game Cam Screenshots\\"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't see anything about the Registration Code in that section.

I am at a lost as to why this happened.

Sorry to puf in on your discussion, but I just wondered here:

Are you saying that if my IP is changed, I will need to buy a new version of Game Cam if I restore the computer, reinstall the OS or buy a new PC?

OPTIONS_DATA

The registration code is encrypted in this key.
I did some experimenting with this and found that when I deleted this key from the registry,
Game Cam would show as no longer being registered. After I right-clicked on the Game Cam
system tray icon and re-registered Game Cam, the registry information was back in place
and Game Cam resumed its functionality.
Once the developers have your registration issue corrected, hopefully, this issue
doesn't reappear.

Gryet wrote:Are you saying that if my IP is changed, I will need to buy a new version of Game Cam

No, you only have to purchase Game Cam one time. If your IP address has changed and you are having validation (registration) issues, then it would be necessary to contact the developers to have your IP reset on the Game Cam server.

That's the problem, I can't get any response from support. I have emailed and waiting for a
response since Sunday. I even emailed the WebMaster with no response.
If you know these people, why don't you ask them why they're not responding?

If this ever happens to you, I hope you have better luck with support then me because I'm getting nothing from them.

It seems to be a re-accruing problem with them.

What a great idea to connect validation with the IP :-(
